Our story

JoyoTour Thailand began in 2009 with two guides, a rented desk on Sukhumvit and a belief that a travel company should be accountable for the trip it sells.

How it started

Nok was a guide in Chiang Mai; Anan was a driver in Bangkok. They met on a trip that went wrong — a hotel double-booked, a boat cancelled — and fixed it in an afternoon. The guests wrote to say it was the best day of their holiday.

They opened an office in Bangkok the following year with three staff and one rule: the person who sells the trip is responsible for it.

Where we are now

Forty guides across six regions, our own vehicles, and a small office that still answers the phone. We operate every itinerary we sell — there is no third-party reseller between you and the people on the ground.

Sixty-eight per cent of our bookings now come from someone who travelled with us before or was sent by a friend. That is the only growth metric we pay attention to.

What changed and what did not

The company has changed shape three times. It started in 2009 as a northern specialist running trekking and hill-tribe trips out of Chiang Mai with two guides and a borrowed pickup. In 2014 it moved the office to Bangkok and added the Andaman coast. In 2019 it stopped taking agent bookings and started selling directly, which is why the prices on this site are lower than the same routes sold through a European agency.

What has not changed is the size. We are deliberately small — around forty guides and a handful of people in the office — because the thing we sell is a person who knows your trip and answers the phone. Growth beyond that would mean a call centre, and a call centre is what we are trying to be an alternative to.

The consequence is that we turn work down. In peak weeks we cap new enquiries rather than hand them to someone who has not read the file. If you write in September for a Christmas trip and we are full, we will say so rather than take the deposit and improvise.

What we are not

We are not a booking platform. We do not resell other operators' tours, we do not aggregate hotel inventory, and we do not earn commission from hotels or airlines. Every itinerary on this site is operated by us, with our guides and our vehicles, and the price you are quoted is what we charge.

We are also not a luxury brand or a budget operator. The trips sit in the middle: four-star hotels rather than five, private guiding rather than group buses, and a fixed price that includes the things most operators exclude. If you want a five-star Aman holiday we are the wrong company; if you want the cheapest possible Thailand we are also the wrong company.

Come and see for yourself

Every enquiry is answered by a person in our Bangkok office, not a call centre.
