Jomtien Beach is the 6km stretch south of Pattaya's main bay, quieter than Beach Road and popular with long-stay visitors. It is free, and a half day is enough unless you are staying there.

Jomtien developed in the 1980s as Pattaya's quieter alternative and became the base for northern European long-stay visitors, which is why the restaurant menus are in German and Swedish as often as English. The beach is straighter and wider than Pattaya's, and the water is marginally cleaner because it faces east away from the main bay's runoff.
It is the part of Pattaya that works for children: gentler water, a wide promenade, and none of Walking Street's noise. Ten minutes from the centre and a different town.
What you’ll actually see
- The beach path at sunrise, when the whole promenade is running and doing tai chi
- The seafood restaurants on the sand at the south end, where you eat at a table 10 metres from the water
- The Jomtien Night Market, two blocks inland, from 5pm
- The view back to Pattaya's skyline from the north end
How to visit it well
- The far south end near Na Jomtien is the quietest.
- Beach chairs are rented by the day; agree the price first.
- Eat seafood at the Na Jomtien restaurants rather than the beach vendors.
Mistakes worth avoiding
- Swimming at midday in the hot season when the water is warm and murky
- Expecting a quiet beach — the northern end has jet skis and umbrellas
- Paying restaurant prices on the sand without checking the weight of the fish first
Is it worth it?
Fine for a morning, not a destination. It is the most comfortable beach in Pattaya for swimming and eating, and the seafood shacks are genuinely good value. Come at 7am for the promenade and stay for breakfast.
