The market is the oldest in Hua Hin and grew around the fishing pier when the town was a royal resort in the 1920s. Unlike the souvenir markets elsewhere, this one is mostly food — the fish comes off the boats at the pier 300 metres away and is on the grill within hours.
The seafood is genuinely good and cheap — grilled prawns, crab, squid — and it is small enough to walk in half an hour. Best eating in Hua Hin.
What you’ll actually see
- The seafood grills along the east side, where you pick your fish and it is cooked to order
- The fruit stalls in the middle, with durian, mango and rose apples by weight
- The old wooden shophouses along Dechanuchit Road
- The pier at the east end, where the boats land around 5pm
How to visit it well
- Pick your seafood and have it grilled on the spot.
- Prices are marked; mild haggling is fine.
- Go before 7pm to get a table.
Mistakes worth avoiding
- Eating at the first restaurant you see rather than walking the length first
- Coming at 5pm when half the stalls are still setting up — 7pm is better
- Expecting bargains on souvenirs; this is a food market
Is it worth it?
Worth an evening, and the best-value meal in Hua Hin. The seafood is genuinely fresh and prices are a third of the beachfront hotels. Come at 7pm, walk the whole street first, then pick a restaurant with a full grill.
