A small coastal park with a cliff trail, a waterfall and a beach where turtles still nest.
The park protects the last stretch of coastal rainforest on this part of the Andaman coast and the offshore reef that runs along the headland. The trail follows an old footpath used by fishermen between the bays, and the small beach at the far end has a freshwater stream running onto the sand.
It is the only place in Khao Lak with a real walk: 20 minutes along the headland to a viewpoint over the bay. Quiet, free of crowds, and good at sunrise.
What you’ll actually see
- The cliff trail with views north to the Surin islands on a clear day
- The small beach at the south end of the trail, with a stream crossing the sand
- Hornbills and dusky langurs in the coastal forest
- The viewpoint above the park headquarters
How to visit it well
- Do the cliff trail early; it is exposed by 10am.
- The small waterfall is seasonal — dry from March.
- Turtle nesting is monitored; do not walk the beach after dark in season.
Mistakes worth avoiding
- Wearing flip-flops — the trail is steep in places and slippery after rain
- Coming at midday; most of the trail is exposed
- Expecting a long hike; the main loop is only 2km
Is it worth it?
Worth two hours and the best short walk in the Khao Lak area. It is not spectacular but it is genuine forest and the cliff views are good. Combine it with the tsunami memorial and Bang Niang beach.
