Leave Phuket at 5:30am, reach Maya Bay before the speedboats, snorkel two bays and be back for lunch.

Best for: Photographers and anyone who hates crowds. The route runs Phuket. Everything below is a starting point: hotels can be upgraded or simplified, days can be added, and any element can be removed.

The entire value of this trip is the departure time. Phi Phi receives around 5,000 visitors a day and almost all of them arrive between 10am and 2pm on speedboats. Leaving Phuket at 6:15am on a private longtail puts you at Maya Bay around 7:30am, when the light is still low and there are perhaps twenty people on the boardwalk.

The boat then works backwards through the group — Pileh Lagoon, Viking Cave, Bamboo Island — finishing at Bamboo for snorkelling while the speedboats are still loading in Phuket. It is a long morning and you will be back at the hotel by 2pm, which leaves the afternoon free.

What happens

  • Maya Bay before 8am
  • Private longtail and captain
  • Snorkelling at Bamboo Island
  • Lunch on Phi Phi Don

5:30 departure, Maya Bay at 7, Bamboo Island snorkel, Phi Phi Don lunch, return by 3pm.

How the days are paced

Eight hours including 45 minutes each way by boat. Four stops, none of them longer than 45 minutes.

What changes the price

$189 per person is based on private · 2–8 travellers sharing a room for 1 days, with mid-range four-star hotels as standard. Nothing is added locally: the entrance fees, boats and guiding are already in the number.

  • Hotel tier. The quote uses good four-star properties. Moving to five-star adds roughly 40–70% to the hotel element; dropping to comfortable three-star saves about 25%.
  • Season. 20 December to 5 January adds 15–25% for the same hotels. Green-season dates (May–October) are 20–30% cheaper with the same itinerary.
  • Party size. Two people pay the price shown. Four or more usually bring the per-person cost down by 10–20%, because the vehicle and guide are shared.
  • Single traveller. A room to yourself adds about $75 (roughly 40%), which is the hotel element rather than a fee.
  • Children. Under 12 sharing with two adults is typically 25–35% less; under 5 is usually free on this route.
  • Flights. International flights and travel insurance are never included. Internal flights are quoted separately at cost, usually $40–90 each.

Deposit is 20% to confirm, balance 30 days before arrival. Free changes up to 45 days out.

Good to know

From $189 per person, based on private · 2–8 travellers, 1 days. The quote includes the hotels, guiding and transport listed under “What’s included”; international flights and travel insurance are not included.

Yes. Every itinerary on this site is a starting point. Days can be added or removed, hotels upgraded or simplified, and the route reordered around your dates — we re-cost it as many times as you need before you commit.

Not included: hotel pickup (can be added), drinks. Everything else listed under “What’s included” is in the quote, and we do not add local payments on arrival.

Three to six months ahead for the best hotels, and by September for travel over Christmas and New Year. Green-season trips can usually be arranged with six weeks’ notice.

It closes annually from August to the end of September. In those months we substitute Loh Samah Bay and the Bamboo Island reef, which are open.

Usually calmer in the early morning than at midday. In the shoulder season we cancel if the marine forecast is poor and refund in full.
