Chatuchak Weekend Market
Fifteen thousand stalls across 27 sections, from vintage denim to orchids, plus more food than anyone can reasonably eat in a day.
Chatuchak is a weekend market in northern Bangkok with roughly 15,000 stalls across 27 sections — the largest in Southeast Asia. Go Saturday morning, bring cash and water, and pick one section rather than trying to cover it all.

Fifteen thousand stalls across 27 sections, from vintage denim to orchids, plus more food than anyone can reasonably eat in a day.
The market began in 1942 as a flea market promoted by Prime Minister Plaek Phibunsongkhram and has grown into a city within a city. Sections are numbered, and the numbering is not intuitive: vintage clothing, plants, ceramics and pets sit in different quarters.
It is the best market in Southeast Asia and a genuine Bangkok experience rather than a tourist reconstruction. Go with a plan or no plan at all — both work, but bring water.
What you’ll actually see
- Section 2–4 for vintage denim and second-hand clothing
- Sections 22–26 for ceramics, homeware and craft
- The plant section, an entire street of orchids and bonsai
- Food stalls along the outer lanes, where Thais actually eat
How to visit it well
- Enter at Mo Chit BTS, exit at Kamphaeng Phet MRT to avoid the crush.
- Sections 2–4 are vintage; 22–26 are crafts and homeware.
- Cash only, and keep small notes.
Mistakes worth avoiding
- Arriving at 2pm in April heat with no water
- Trying to walk the whole market in one go
Is it worth it?
A real Bangkok experience rather than a tourist reconstruction, and the best shopping in the city. Two hours with a plan beats five hours without one.
