Best for: Anyone who books a trip around food. The route runs Bangkok. Everything below is a starting point: hotels can be upgraded or simplified, days can be added, and any element can be removed.

Yaowarat after dark is the best eating street in Southeast Asia and it is genuinely difficult to navigate without help — the best stalls have no English, the queues are not a reliable signal, and half the dishes are sold out by 8pm. A guide who has eaten here for twenty years changes the evening from a lucky dip into a sequence.

The route covers about 1.5km with six or seven stops: grilled river prawns, Hokkien noodles, oyster omelette, Chinese-Thai desserts and a beer stop in a shophouse that has not changed since the 1970s. Vegetarian and halal versions are straightforward with notice.

What happens

  • Charcoal-grilled satay in Bang Rak
  • Boat noodles at a 60-year-old stall
  • Chinatown's Yaowarat Road after dark
  • Coconut ice cream from a cart

Meet at 6pm at Saphan Taksin, walk Bang Rak, ferry to Chinatown, finish around 9:30.

How the days are paced

Four hours on foot, about 1.5km total, with seated stops every 25 minutes. No stop is a full meal, which is the point.

What changes the price

$65 per person is based on private · 2–6 travellers sharing a room for 1 days, with mid-range four-star hotels as standard. Nothing is added locally: the entrance fees, boats and guiding are already in the number.

  • Hotel tier. The quote uses good four-star properties. Moving to five-star adds roughly 40–70% to the hotel element; dropping to comfortable three-star saves about 25%.
  • Season. 20 December to 5 January adds 15–25% for the same hotels. Green-season dates (May–October) are 20–30% cheaper with the same itinerary.
  • Party size. Two people pay the price shown. Four or more usually bring the per-person cost down by 10–20%, because the vehicle and guide are shared.
  • Single traveller. A room to yourself adds about $26 (roughly 40%), which is the hotel element rather than a fee.
  • Children. Under 12 sharing with two adults is typically 25–35% less; under 5 is usually free on this route.
  • Flights. International flights and travel insurance are never included. Internal flights are quoted separately at cost, usually $40–90 each.

Deposit is 20% to confirm, balance 30 days before arrival. Free changes up to 45 days out.

Yes. Every itinerary on this site is a starting point. Days can be added or removed, hotels upgraded or simplified, and the route reordered around your dates — we re-cost it as many times as you need before you commit.

Not included: hotel pickup, alcohol. Everything else listed under “What’s included” is in the quote, and we do not add local payments on arrival.

Three to six months ahead for the best hotels, and by September for travel over Christmas and New Year. Green-season trips can usually be arranged with six weeks’ notice.

Yes, with 24 hours' notice. Halal and vegetarian routes are both routine; a shellfish allergy needs a different route entirely.

From about eight, yes. The walk is short and the food stops are frequent, which keeps it manageable.
