“Travelled with a 7 and a 10 year old. Boat timings changed twice and they still met us at the pier with cold water and a smile.”

Grand Palace & Wat Pho Walking Tour
Four hours on foot through the old city with a historian-guide: the palace, the Reclining Buddha and the river.
A private half-day walking tour of the Grand Palace, Wat Phra Kaew and Wat Pho, from $75 per person. It starts at 8:30am at the palace gate and finishes around 1pm, covering about 3km on foot with a guide who knows the back entrances.
Four hours on foot through the old city with a historian-guide: the palace, the Reclining Buddha and the river.
Best for: First morning in Bangkok. The route runs Bangkok. Everything below is a starting point: hotels can be upgraded or simplified, days can be added, and any element can be removed.
This is the single most useful morning you can spend in Bangkok, and it is almost always done badly. The palace opens at 8:30am and by 10am there are 40 coach parties inside; a guide who knows the sequence — Wat Phra Kaew first, then the palace halls, then out through the north gate to Wat Pho — gives you 90 minutes of relative calm before the crowd arrives.
The walking is flat but the heat is the real constraint, which is why the route is built around shade and water stops rather than endurance. Wat Pho at the end is the reward: the reclining Buddha, the 91 chedis, and the massage school where a 30-minute treatment costs a fraction of what the hotels charge.
