“Excellent guiding and a beautiful route. One hotel was below the standard of the others and they refunded the difference without argument.”

Koh Samui & Ang Thong
Five days on the Gulf: a quiet north-coast base, a day in the Ang Thong archipelago and an evening on Bang Rak pier.
Koh Samui & Ang Thong is a 5-day private trip based on Samui with a full day in the Ang Thong marine park, from $890 per person. It is for couples and families who want calm water and resorts rather than the Andaman's boat-heavy itineraries.
Five days on the Gulf: a quiet north-coast base, a day in the Ang Thong archipelago and an evening on Bang Rak pier.
Best for: Couples and families who want calm water. The route runs Koh Samui · Koh Phangan. Everything below is a starting point: hotels can be upgraded or simplified, days can be added, and any element can be removed.
Samui's advantage is that it has the infrastructure of Phuket with a fraction of the crowd, and the Gulf's weather runs opposite to the Andaman — so this is the trip to book between May and September when the west coast is in monsoon. The base is the north coast, which is quieter than Chaweng and has better restaurants.
The Ang Thong day is the centrepiece: 42 islands, the Emerald Lake on Koh Mae Ko, and the viewpoint climb on Koh Wua Talap. The rest of the trip is beach, a fishermen's village evening, a Big Buddha morning and one spa afternoon. Nothing starts before 8am.

Three to six months ahead for the best hotels, and by September for travel over Christmas and New Year. Green-season trips can usually be arranged with six weeks’ notice.
January to August. Samui's rainy season is October to December, which is the opposite of Phuket and Krabi.
The boat and the Emerald Lake are fine from about six. The Wua Talap viewpoint climb is steep and not for small children.

What travellers say about trips like this
“Three weeks is a long time to be organised. Nothing fell through, and the one thing that did — a cancelled flight — was rebooked before we reached the airport.”
“Three drafts of the itinerary before we paid anything, and every change was answered the same day. The guide in Chiang Mai was worth the whole trip.”
